Getting on the list

Draft: pending review by a live-cash coach
3 min read
Most Las Vegas card rooms fill their games from a waitlist. Before you sit down anywhere, you ask to be added to the list for the game you want.
Look for the podium. A person there, often called the brush, seats players and runs the list. Walk up, say hello, and tell them which game you would like.
Games have names. A game called 1/2 No-Limit has a small blind of one dollar and a big blind of two dollars. No-Limit means you can bet any amount you have on the table.
Many rooms keep the list in an app, such as Bravo Poker Live or PokerAtlas. Which one depends on the room, so look for a sign or ask the brush. Some rooms keep the list by hand.
You may hear the words main game and must-move. The main game is the table the room fills first. A must-move table feeds the main game.
When a seat opens in the main game, a player from the must-move table moves over. It is a house rule, so if you land at a must-move table, ask how it works.
Stay close once you are on the list, and listen for your name. If you miss your call, rooms handle it differently. Ask what happens so you do not lose your spot.
It is completely fine to say you are new. Brushes and dealers see new players every day, and most are glad to point you the right way.
